Gene and Robin Willis, you have done it again! You have brought a great team and y’all are great team leaders!
Oh, my, how can I ever describe to you this team from Texas, California and Georgia? This was one of the most fun teams ever and you will just have to take my word for that!
For one thing, it was a younger team, but also, there was so much HEART in this group! They lived, loved, laughed and cried and were just a joy to work with.
We also had one teenager with us, Josh, who is such a sweet spirit to be around! He didn’t just have a sweet spirit, he is a sweet spirit and was on fire for the Lord. He was there helping everywhere! Good job, Melissa and Jay!
The team arrived Saturday afternoon aboard Copa Airlines and we traveled Sunday aboard the Chosen Vessel, II, from our campus in Nina Rumi, on up the Nanay River to the small village of Anguilla.
We began our work there on Monday morning by giving some of the ladies of the village chickens, rice and beans and they began preparing lunch for the entire village.
Margarita stood up in the church service and greeted us and then proceeded to sing us several songs! What a feisty little lady she is at 80 years!
We then would have a full church service and Andres, David and Carlos preached different days and I told the story one day. There were 15 precious souls who gave their lives to J’shua, Jesus during this trip and 40 were reconciled to Him before the week was over! We had a wonderful time, with the people receiving us gladly, as it had been some time since we were ministering on the Nanay River.
After the service, we had a skit showing that even though it was the custom for a servant of the house to wash the guest’s feet, Jesus Himself washed the disciples’ feet at the last supper. We did that to demonstrate that we would wash their feet later on in the campaign just to show that we loved them and were there to serve them. As part of the skit, a ‘crowd’ of onlookers were saying, “Look! Jesus is washing His disciples’ feet!” And then the entire village would repeat, “Look! Jesus is washing His disciples’ feet!” It really stayed with them and David was talking about it even on the next team.
The doctor and nurse treated everyone in the village and they were given gifts of clothing, toys, and personal items. Then they were given the medications and glasses they needed; each family was prayed for in the prayer station and they were given full bibles; they had their feet washed and given new sandals.
After lunch, we welcomed the ladies to THE AMAZON SPA! This was the first time we have ever done a spa, but Rebecca and daughter, Brittany, both cosmetologist, planned to cut hair, so the idea of the Spa sprang forth and we had so much fun and so did the sisters! The ladies in Mishana giggled the entire event!
We massaged their hands and feet with lotion; then cut their hair, styled it or just left it loose as they chose, painted their nails and gave them lip sticks or gloss, hair bows or clips, perfumed them and they all had to feel like the princesses they are! It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun for them and us!
*****I know Sally’s donated so many things to this Spa that we will be able to do the Spa again a few more times with the supplies they sent! Also, an Avon Lady donated the lipsticks and perfumes and I think some other things. Another beautician in Texas gave one of the team members, Yvette, a free visit if she would donate the same amount of money to the needy here, which she was most careful to do! Another $20 was given by a church member of another team member to be donated here to help meet the needs. This money was used to help with the cost for lunches for the villages while we were there.
God bless you ALL for your generous donations that helped us to make The Chosen Spa a very special blessing for these women, who work so very hard and carry such a heavy load in life, yet still have faith in God and appreciate the things we try to do to bless them! You just should have seen it first hand to know just how much they loved it! None of these sisters had EVER had anyone massage their hands or feet or fuss over them like we did at this Spa! We ministered to their flesh, but it was truly a work of the Spirit! Your kind thoughtfulness will long be remembered! May you all receive the 100-fold-return on your giving in money and what money cannot possibly buy—whatever you have need of most right now!
VBS is a hit always. So much fun for everyone!
