It was good to see old friends and meet new ones with the team from First United Methodist Church, Tifton, GA, and some of their friends from other churches. The team was led by Dr. Buddy Walker, DDS, and they came to do evangelism, give medical and dental attentions, clothing, shoes, hats, toys, bibles, food and to build their fourth church here in the Amazonia of Perú.
The two dentists, Buddy and Luke, worked aboard the Chosen Vessel, II, while the 2 physicians and a PA on the team went house to house and treated those who were sick in the village of Huanana, where the church was being constructed.
The next day we went to a nearby village, Nuevo Progreso, and brought 56 people to the boat for medical and dental attentions, prayer, and all the gifts that were provided. In this village all the people were happy, joyful Christians, who knew the Lord and were much encouraged by this team’s visitation, pouring out much love on them!
After the people went back to their village, the team visited their pueblo to see the progress on the 2 wells they had funded to be put in this week. They had one finished and the other was being worked on.
Amazingly enough, they competed and dedicated the church in 2 days! Many of the men from the church worked along side of the team, along with Pastor David Gonzales, the church foreman and several others from the crew of AMM. They were a united group working for the Glory of God to provide a place of worship here in the jungle!
The dedication was a glorious time for everyone! The church was packed and there was much joy in that village that they now had a “temple”.
We moved on to Camaleon Isla on Wednesday and repeated all we did with the other villages. Here is them getting their food bags and other gifts
Thursday morning after breakfast, the CV was started on the return voyage back to our homeport. The team had divided the food that was left to take portions to Puerto Rico to give to the people there and then they prepared special bags of food (5 large rice bags full) for each of the pastors of the 3 villages they were also visiting just to spend some time with the people.
I’m sure the villagers were especially glad to see this team, who had labored 4 days in their villages on prior visits, while also building each of those villages a church. I know it had to have brought back special memories of those on the group who had actually been on those other visits working on those churches, as well as to the villagers, who had this opportunity to see those American faces yet once again!
This was fine work done this week by this team and I know the Lord sees it all and He never forgets! May the favor and blessing of God rest on all those who gave their very best here in the jungle this week to advance the Kingdom of God! You have made a difference here and one day you will see all that ‘really’ happened behind the scenes, both in the spirit world and the earthly realm, because you came! Darkness has suffered a blow!
Thank you, FUMC!
Thanks, too, to our home church, Free Chapel in Gainesville, GA for our monthly support that enables us to keep on keeping on! You’re the best!
