It was a good day when the construction and evangelism team arrived from Mike’s hometown, Clinton, TN, to make this visitation from the Lord to the Amazonia this past week.
The team was comprised of 11 dedicated followers of Christ, who took the call to ‘Go ye!’ seriously and took a week from their lives to enrich the lives of the villagers of Páparo on the Maniti River, a tributary of the mighty Amazon.
The team was sent out by Second Baptist Church and was led by Joel and Michelle Sampsel, who have been here on two other trips and they did a super good job leading the team of 5 men, 3 women and 3 youth. They worked diligently to have medical clinics, VBS and they also raised the money for the beautiful church they built.
The church is centrally situated in the village next to the school and is beside the old church building that was built right on the ground and didn’t have a floor or roof and flooded during the rainy season.
The team stayed focused on their work, arising at 5:30 each morning to take advantage of the cooler weather at that hour.
The youth worked right along side of the men and even the women got some nails hammered in and they built the church in 3 days!
Monday we held a medical clinic for the people of Pápara. Tuesday and Wednesday we also held clinics for the people of the nearby village of Villa Maria.
All medications are bought by AMM.
Each family that visits the clinic receives a one-on-one witness of J’shua, a new Bible and personal prayer. While all stations are important, this is one of the most fulfilling.
Some of my personal friends from Villa Maria paid me a call at the boat and we caught up on what was going on in their lives and church and I hope I was able to encourage them to keep on keeping on in spite of the hard life they lead here and in spite of the adversities of the enemy. No pics 🙁
On Tuesday a couple of the youth, Josh and Garrett, took some time from the building project and helped Carol with the bible school, making it special for the kids of the village, having American kids to be a part of their session.
Since school was out for the week due to the teacher having to go to Iquitos, we had the children available for morning and afternoon sessions.
Also on Wednesday, the ladies on the team went door to door and had wonderful experiences, as I am sure none of the villagers will soon forget!
They were graciously welcomed into every home as they were most excited to have the ladies visit them.
In some cases, the entire families gave their hearts to the Lord and 12 in total received Christ during this visit.
One elderly gentleman had been a Christian for some time, but he was still so emotional over his conversion experience that he couldn’t tell it because of his tears!
Another lady was so glad to see the ladies coming to her home, because she said that the Lord had spoken to her to receive Him during the clinic, but she didn’t respond, but was so glad they came to her home so that she had a second opportunity to do so!
They also got to minister to a young man very ill with malaria and Alex, our interpreter prayed a powerful, heartfelt, moving prayer for his healing. As they showed up, the Lord showed out!
They got to see how the people actually live, work and play with very little material blessings and were humbled by the moving of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those they encountered. The villagers were sincere in their step of faith to receive salvation and we know that Eternal business was conducted in this village this week! The ladies also were also impacted by the contrast between the blessings they all experience in the States and what they saw here.
The last day, Thursday, we gave out gifts new hats and T-shirts, new Crocks, sewing and fishing kits, hair ornaments, coloring books and crayons, toys and candy and other things I’m sure I’ve forgotten. What fun!
We are all called to be witnesses of what the Lord has done for us and this was a great team, who did a great work and provided that gospel witness to the people in word and in deed, showing much love and the heart of Jesus, Who first loved us and told us to love each other!
Because they came, Fruit was wrought for the Kingdom with about 56 souls accepting Christ as Savior, and we believe that Fruit to be Remaining!
The people now have a building in which to worship the Lord!
And they have a Bible from which to learn God’s truth!
and new glasses to see to read those Bibles!
They experienced love from total strangers, who spent thousands of dollars, took their vacation time, left families, friends and jobs to travel thousands of hard miles just because the Lord called their names to ‘Go!’ Eternity will reveal what was really done this week in the name of J’shua, our Messiah!
We say to Second Baptist Church of Clinton, TN, this team in particular and to our home church, Free Chapel, Gainesville, GA: May God bless you with whatever it is you have need of the most right now with the 100-fold-return for everything you gave to make this trip possible! Thank you for helping us to stay here in Perú, whose fields are white unto harvest!
Matthew 9:35-38 KJV
35 And Yahshua went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they were fainted and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then sayeth he to His disciples, The harvest truly is plentious, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he will send forth labourers into His harvest.
